Dr. Don Miller

Veterinarian

Dr. Don Miller, a distinguished figure in the world of veterinary medicine with a lifelong commitment to advancing reproductive techniques in both cattle and horses. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Dr. Miller’s journey in veterinary science began at the esteemed University of Saskatchewan and continued at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his BSc., DVM, and MVSc. degrees.

Dr. Miller’s Master of Veterinary Science degree focused on breeding soundness in both cattle and horses, laying the foundation for his groundbreaking work in assisted reproductive techniques. Since graduating, he has dedicated his veterinary practice to pioneering advancements in this field, witnessing remarkable transformations in the industry over the years.

From the early days of complete surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia to the present-day non-surgical approaches, Dr. Miller has been at the forefront of innovation. He has witnessed the evolution of reproductive techniques with cattle, from traditional methods to the widespread use of cooled and frozen semen, embryo transfer, and even cutting-edge techniques like IVF and ICSI.

In 1985, Dr. Miller founded Sundown Livestock Transplants, a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of his influential career in equine reproductive work. By 1992, he expanded his focus to include importing semen from the USA and providing comprehensive breeding and embryo transfer services to horse owners in western Canada.

Throughout the early 2000s, Dr. Miller and his family played a crucial role in the Calgary Stampede’s renowned “Born To Buck” program. Hosting the elite bucking string at their Cremona facility, along with the legendary six-time world champion bareback stallion, G- 65 Grated Coconut, they contributed to the creation of offspring that continue to dominate the rodeo arena and breeding pastures today.

Dr. Miller resides with his family at the Cremona location, where both of his sons are deeply involved in the livestock industry. One son excels as a professional tie-down roper, farrier, and horse trainer, while the other thrives as a cattle breeder, livestock marketer, and respected cattle judge.

Dr. Miller eagerly anticipates the 2025 season With his wealth of experience and unwavering dedication to excellence, he looks forward to offering his services and expertise to help achieve the clinic’s goal of providing quality care and breeding success to clients.
